Beginner Muay Thai in Aonang: What to Know Before Your First Class

You are on holiday in Krabi, seeing Muay Thai posters everywhere. You want to try it, but you feel intimidated? That is completely normal. However, 90% of our visitors at Over The Top Aonang are here for fitness and fun, not to become professional fighters.
Do I need to be fit to start?
This is the #1 myth. You don’t do Muay Thai because you are fit; you do Muay Thai to GET fit. Our trainers adapt the intensity to your level. If you need a break, you take a break. The goal is simply to move your body in the tropical heat of Thailand.
What does a typical class look like?
A session usually lasts 60 minutes and follows this flow:
- Warm-up (10-15 min): Skipping rope and dynamic stretching.
- Shadow Boxing: Learning the movements.
- Pad Work: The heart of the training. You strike pads held by the trainer (an amazing feeling!).
- Bag Work & Conditioning: Heavy bag drills and bodyweight exercises.
What should I bring?
Not much! We provide gloves and shin guards for beginners. Just come with:
- Comfortable sports clothes (shorts and t-shirt)
- A water bottle
- A towel
- A positive attitude!
Why choose Aonang to start?
Unlike the big stadiums in Bangkok which can be intense and intimidating, Aonang gyms like ours offer a friendly, family-style atmosphere. Plus, after training, Aonang Beach is just minutes away for a well-deserved recovery.
