Fuel Your Fight: The Ultimate Nutrition Guide for Martial Arts Performance

Proper nutrition is crucial for maximizing your martial arts performance. Whether you are training Muay Thai, MMA, or BJJ, your body needs the right fuel. Here is a complete guide to help you eat correctly:

Before Training (2-3 hours prior) The goal is to fuel your energy reserves without feeling heavy.

    • Complex carbs: Rice, oats, sweet potatoes.
    • Lean proteins: Chicken, fish, eggs.
    • Tip: Avoid fatty and high-fiber foods right before training to prevent digestion issues.

    During Training

    • Hydration: Drink water consistently.
    • Electrolytes: Essential if your session exceeds 1 hour (especially in Thailand's heat!).
    • Tip: Avoid sugary sodas; stick to water or sports drinks.

After Training (Within 30 min) The "anabolic window" is vital for recovery.

    • Proteins: Essential for muscle repair.
    • Carbs: To replenish your glycogen (energy) stores.
    • Ideal ratio: Aim for a 3:1 ratio of carbs to protein.

    Recommended Foods for Fighters

    • Fruits: Bananas, berries, oranges.
    • Green vegetables: Spinach, broccoli, zucchini.
    • Proteins: Salmon, tuna, tofu, legumes.
    • Seeds and nuts: Almonds, sunflower seeds.

    Useful Supplements

    • Whey protein: Practical for quick recovery after a session.
    • Creatine: Can help with explosiveness and power.
    • Omega-3: Great for reducing inflammation and joint pain.
    • Vitamin D: Important for bone health (though in Krabi, the sun usually helps!).

Hydration Strategy Drink at least 2-3 liters of water daily, and more on training days. A simple test: your urine should be light yellow. If it's dark, drink more water immediately.

Remember: Nutrition is an optimization tool, not a restriction! Eat to perform.
